Effect of Fluid-drying on the activity of dysentery phage

Abstract
The author has investigated the destroying phenomena of shigella flexneri phage which is dried at 37C and 50C after suspending in common broth, 0.01% gelatin broth and 0.5% glucose broth of various pH values and obtained the following results.
The phage activity was most stable when the pH of phage suspension is neutral and, when the pH is 5.0 and 9. 0, the phage was more quickly destroyed than that of neutral pH.
When the phage is suspended in the neutral comm on broth, 0.01 % gelatin broth and 0.5 % glucose broth and dried at 37C, about 20 weeks, 10 weeks and one week was necessary respectively for almost destroying of phage from each dried material.
The surviving period of phage dried at ¢¥50¢¥C was about half as much as that dried at 37C.
